Principles and Practices of Biorisk Management

This comprehensive week-long, interactive training program is designed for new biosafety officers, lab managers, Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) members, and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) directors.

Our course is led by a team of faculty and staff with solid expertise in their respective fields, ensuring you receive the highest quality education and training. Participants will gain essential knowledge and skills to manage and implement effective biosafety programs.

The course covers various aspects of biosafety, including administrative responsibilities, teaching/training, medical surveillance, emergency response, inspections, and program development, all tailored to meet Canadian regulatory requirements.

Course hours: 9:00am to 5:00pm (lunch break included)
Cost*: $2,500.00. EPIC-affiliated hospitals and universities: $1,500. Current University of Toronto staff and students: free

*All prices are subject to 13% HST. Lunches will be provided. Participants are responsible for travel and accommodations.

Invoices and payment instructions will be sent by email beginning two months before the start of the course. The University of Toronto must receive the payment by Friday, November 1st. Registrants who have not paid the fee by the payment deadline will be unenrolled from the course. U of T will supply receipts upon full payment for individuals needing to submit for their institutional reimbursement.

Cancellation Policy

Registrant-Initiated Cancellation: Participants who wish to cancel their enrollment in the course must do so at least 30 days prior to the course start date to receive a full refund. Cancellation requests received less than 30 days before the course start date will not be eligible for a refund. All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing via email to ehs.courses@utoronto.ca.

University-Initiated Cancellation: The university reserves the right to cancel the course up to 30 days before the scheduled start date. In the event of a university-initiated cancellation, all registered students will receive a full refund of the course fee. Notifications of course cancellations will be sent to the registered students via email.
