Unescorted access to irradiator facilities at the University of Toronto requires staff, students and faculty to pass the Trustworthiness Verification process and complete the necessary safety training. In order to be authorized for unescorted access you must complete the following steps:
- Step 1: Obtain a Criminal Reference Check (Level 1) letter from the Toronto Police Services.
- Step 2: Provide an updated CV or resume to the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)
- Step 3: Complete the online training EHS 710: Sealed Source Safety (see https://ehs.utoronto.ca/training/my-ehs-training/ for registration)
- Step 4: Upon completion of steps 1 to 3, an interview is scheduled with the direct supervisor of the applicant.
- Step 5: The RSO will contact Campus Safety to issue access to the authorized worker. Note: a fee is charged to the home department of the worker and they must have a valid FOB
- Step 6: Once access has been granted, onsite training on the irradiator will be provided by the RSO
- Step 7: The applicant becomes an authorized irradiator user and is attached to the irradiator permit of the supervisor/permit holder.
