Laser Safety

The University of Toronto Laser Safety Program is overseen by the Institutional Laser Safety Committee which reports to the Associate Vice-President, Research Oversight and Compliance. The program is implemented by the EHS Radiation Protection Service (RPS) and the Laser Safety Officer (LSO) in accordance to the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and relevant Federal regulations.

Training

EHS offers a wide variety of laser safety training courses for researchers and staff working with or near Class 3B and 4 lasers. The list of courses is linked below with course descriptions:

If you are unsure of which course(s) you are required to complete, contact the Laser Safety Officer or refer to the EHS Training Matrix below:

Registration for all EHS courses is done through the My EHS Training portal. You must create a EHS Training Registration profile before registering in EHS courses.

Laser Safety Officer Training

EHS offers an annual week-long course for new or seasoned laser safety officers. The Laser Safety Officer Training course is the only one certified by the Board of Laser Safety (BLS) in Canada! Please visit the course page for more details:
